On June 12, 2025, East-West International School (EWIS), Cambodia, stood in solidarity with global efforts to end child labor by marking the World Day Against Child Labor. With the powerful message “A child must learn, not earn,” the school reaffirmed its dedication to protecting children’s rights and promoting access to quality education for every child.

A Call to End Child Labor

The campaign, highlighted through a striking visual of a child laborer carrying bricks, served as a stark reminder of the harsh realities millions of children face around the world. EWIS emphasized the importance of education as a fundamental right and the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation.

By saying “No to Child Labor” and “Yes to Education,” the school aligns itself with international efforts led by organizations such as the ILO and UNICEF. EWIS aims to raise awareness among its students, families, and the broader community, using education as a platform for advocacy and action.

Education as a Shield and Solution

East-West International School offers a robust international curriculum that nurtures critical thinking, empathy, and social responsibility. Events like this serve not only to educate students academically but also to cultivate global citizens who understand the importance of human rights, justice, and compassion.

The school integrates awareness campaigns into its teaching strategies, empowering students to take part in social issues, both locally and globally. By discussing child labor, students are encouraged to reflect on their privileges, build empathy, and advocate for peers who may not have the same opportunities.

Taking a Stand as a School Community

EWIS’s participation in World Day Against Child Labor is more than symbolic—it’s a concrete step in instilling values of fairness, dignity, and responsibility in its students. Teachers and staff play a vital role in guiding discussions and activities that help students understand the importance of ending child exploitation.

The school also uses these moments to remind the community of the importance of continued support for inclusive education, particularly in areas where children are at risk of entering the labor force prematurely due to poverty, conflict, or lack of access to schooling.

Join the Fight for Every Child’s Right to Learn

As Cambodia continues to improve its education system, schools like East-West International School are leading by example—raising awareness, promoting action, and educating students on global issues that truly matter.
