The Australian International School Phnom Penh (AISPP) is sparking young minds—literally. In a recent hands-on science activity, Foundation students visited the high school science lab to explore the basics of electricity through circuit kits. The project gave these budding engineers a real-world experience of how simple circuits work, turning theoretical knowledge into bright, buzzing discoveries.

Through guided experiments, students connected wires, tested batteries, and lit up bulbs, gaining a foundational understanding of how electrical current flows and what materials can conduct or insulate it.

Igniting Curiosity Through Exploration

This practical session is a perfect example of AISPP’s commitment to inquiry-based learning. Rather than simply watching demonstrations, students got involved—handling wires, bulbs, and switches as they built their own circuits. The excitement in their faces as the bulbs lit up showed just how powerful experiential learning can be.

As students tested a variety of materials, they learned key scientific principles in a memorable, interactive format. These experiments also nurtured problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking—skills that go far beyond the science lab.

STEM Education Starts Early at AISPP

AISPP’s approach to education ensures that even the youngest learners are engaged in meaningful learning experiences. By introducing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts early, the school equips students with the tools they need to become creative thinkers and future innovators.

This early exposure helps build confidence and curiosity in subjects that are critical for 21st-century learners. Activities like these show that learning science can be fun, challenging, and deeply rewarding.

Learning that Connects Across Grade Levels

One standout aspect of this project was the collaboration between the Foundation and high school departments. Using the high school lab gave younger students access to real equipment and created a sense of connection across grade levels. It also allowed high school staff to inspire and mentor the next generation of learners.
