Western International School Stands Up for Student Health
Western International School (WIS) recently launched a week-long student-led campaign across its campuses focused on raising awareness about the dangers of vaping and e-cigarette use. The initiative, spearheaded by the Student Council, demonstrated the school’s commitment to not only academic excellence but also the physical well-being and moral development of its learners.
With vaping becoming an alarming trend among young people worldwide, WIS took a bold and proactive step to educate its community and equip students with the knowledge and confidence to make healthier choices.
The Power of Student Voices
Throughout the campaign, students engaged their peers in meaningful conversations about the serious health risks associated with e-cigarettes. From damaging the respiratory system to increasing long-term health vulnerabilities, the message was clear: vaping is not just a passing fad—it’s a real threat to student health.
What made this campaign especially powerful was that it was led by students for students. These peer-led discussions allowed for honest, relatable conversations that resonated deeply across grade levels. By encouraging youth-led advocacy, WIS is fostering leadership, responsibility, and critical thinking among its student body.
A Unified Pledge with the “Handprint Wall”
As a visual and symbolic representation of their commitment to staying vape-free, WIS students created a “Handprint Wall.” With bright handprints in red, blue, and yellow, each mark signified a personal pledge to reject vaping and promote a healthier lifestyle. The wall became a collective statement of courage, unity, and personal responsibility.
This initiative not only reinforced the anti-vaping message but also built a sense of community and solidarity. It gave students a creative outlet to express their values and visibly demonstrate their promise to protect their health and support one another.
A School Community Rooted in Health and Values
Western International School continues to set a high standard in Cambodia’s international education sector. By integrating wellness initiatives into the school experience, WIS shows that learning is not limited to the classroom. It includes nurturing healthy habits, ethical choices, and leadership for the future.
This campaign reflects WIS’s dedication to developing not just smart students, but good citizens—young people who are aware, empowered, and committed to positive change.
