In a recent Fine Motor Skills session, nursery students engaged in a delightful sheep-themed craft using Q-tips—cut in half to mimic fluffy wool—as they honed their hand-eye coordination, pincer grip, and concentration.

Strengthening Motor Skills Through Art

Fine motor development is critical in the early years, laying the foundation for writing, self-care tasks, and overall independence. By handling small objects like halved Q-tips, PIS students practiced precision and control—key components of fine motor growth.

Teachers guided each step with warmth and encouragement, fostering an environment where children could confidently explore, experiment, and create. The colorful, underwater-themed classroom added to the excitement, making the learning experience both immersive and memorable.

The sheep craft project wasn’t just about motor skills—it also encouraged creativity, communication, and emotional expression. As students chatted about their artwork, followed instructions, and proudly showed their finished pieces, they strengthened language and social-emotional abilities as well.
