Exploring Nature Through Taste and Touch The Japanese International School of Phnom Penh (JISPP) recently provided its students with an exciting hands-on learning experience by exploring fresh jackfruit right from their garden. This engaging activity allowed children to touch, smell, and taste one of Cambodia’s most unique and delicious fruits. Through this immersive approach, students developed a deeper appreciation for nature and the importance of food in their daily lives.

A Sensory Adventure in the Garden One of the most remarkable aspects of this activity was how it engaged all five senses. The children were thrilled to witness the enormous size of the jackfruit as they picked it directly from the tree. Feeling its rough exterior and discovering its fragrant aroma sparked curiosity and excitement. This interactive process helped them understand where food comes from and how it connects to the natural world.

The Joy of Learning Through Experience At JISPP, education extends beyond traditional classroom settings. This garden activity is an excellent example of how experiential learning fosters curiosity and joy. By actively participating in harvesting and tasting jackfruit, students absorbed valuable lessons about nature, agriculture, and food appreciation. Such experiences not only make learning enjoyable but also instill lifelong respect for the environment and healthy eating habits.

Building Connections Through Shared Meals The highlight of the event was when students and teachers gathered to enjoy the freshly harvested jackfruit together. This communal activity strengthened friendships, encouraged social interaction, and reinforced the value of sharing food. It was a meaningful way to celebrate the school’s commitment to holistic education, where learning is not just about books but also about real-world experiences that shape character and knowledge.
