Understanding where our food comes from is an essential part of education, and Southbridge International School Cambodia (SISC) is making learning more engaging through real-world experiences. Recently, Grade 3 students had an exciting educational trip to Kirisu Farm, where they explored the journey of milk from farm to table.

This hands-on experience aligned perfectly with their Global Perspectives curriculum, offering students a deeper understanding of agriculture, food production, and sustainability.

Exploring the Farm: From Cattle to Crops

The day began at the cattle pens, where students observed how cows are raised and cared for. They learned about feeding routines, cattle nutrition, and the importance of proper farming techniques. The visit provided a close-up view of how farmers prepare cattle feed, including silage and hay, which are crucial for livestock health.

Moving on, the students toured the farming fields, where they discovered the role of crops in dairy farming. This immersive experience helped them understand how sustainable farming practices contribute to food production and environmental conservation.

Witnessing the Milk Processing Journey

One of the most exciting moments of the trip was watching the milk processing stage. Students observed how raw milk is collected, tested for quality, and transformed into finished dairy products. This process demonstrated the effort and precision required to bring fresh milk to consumers.

By seeing each step firsthand, students gained a newfound appreciation for dairy farmers and the science behind milk production. This experience encouraged curiosity about food systems and inspired discussions on the importance of food safety and quality control.

Learning Through Experience: A Lasting Impact

Beyond classroom learning, this trip provided students with a practical and memorable experience that reinforced key lessons about food origins. Hands-on activities like these help children develop critical thinking skills, ask meaningful questions, and connect academic knowledge with the real world.

To end the day, students enjoyed a picnic lunch in a natural setting, allowing them to reflect on their experiences while bonding with classmates. Such experiential learning trips emphasize the value of outdoor education and interactive learning, making studies more impactful and enjoyable.
