A Legendary Day at the Japanese International School of Phnom Penh
On July 27th, 2025, the Japanese International School of Phnom Penh (JISPP) gave its students an unforgettable experience by welcoming former Japan National Football Team Head Coach Takeshi Okada. The special visit was more than a sports event—it was a joyful celebration of learning, teamwork, and cultural connection.

The football session, held at the JISPP campus in Toul Kork, brought smiles, laughter, and energy as children engaged in football drills and playful interactions with Coach Okada and his team of Japanese educators. This unique opportunity showcased the school’s commitment to holistic development through play-based learning.

A Football Legend Inspiring Young Learners
Coach Takeshi Okada, a renowned figure in Japanese football, brought not just his sporting skills, but also his warmth and enthusiasm to the JISPP campus. Known for leading Japan to multiple World Cup appearances, Coach Okada demonstrated how sport can unite people across generations and borders.

During his time with the students, Coach Okada engaged children in a series of football activities tailored for early learners and kindergarteners. The event was not competitive in nature—it focused on fun, movement, and interaction. This approach perfectly aligns with JISPP’s educational philosophy of creating safe and engaging environments for children to grow through hands-on experiences.

The JISPP Learning Approach: Play, Culture, and Respect
The Japanese International School of Phnom Penh stands out among international schools in Cambodia for integrating Japanese education standards with a strong emphasis on character development, respect, and creativity. The visit from Coach Okada supported this mission by combining physical education with joyful learning.

By blending sports with early childhood education, JISPP nurtures students’ motor skills, communication, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. Teachers were actively involved in the event, playing alongside the children and helping to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere.

Community, Culture, and Global Connections
The event also highlighted the international nature of JISPP’s community. While rooted in Japanese educational traditions, the school embraces diversity and cross-cultural exchanges. Hosting a public figure like Takeshi Okada demonstrates the school’s ability to connect global talents with local learning experiences.

This initiative fostered not only student engagement but also parent and community pride. Such events strengthen the school’s reputation as a hub for cultural exchange and high-quality education in Phnom Penh.
